ABOUT US

Who We Are

Home of the Braves

Since 1948, Holy Cross Lutheran School has provided affordable, Christ-centered education and nurturing to the whole child in mind, body, and spirit. Our mission is to offer quality Lutheran education that ministers to pre-K3 to 8th-grade students and is accessible to community families as it nurtures children into becoming faithful, confident leaders.
Backed by generations of academic excellence, our students perform at the top of their class, both during and after their time with us. We offer an area-exclusive, leveled reading program and Saxon math curriculum—including advanced math placement—designed to ensure each child learns at their own pace while being challenged to their full potential. STEM education focuses on critical thinking and problem-solving through hands-on learning that inspires innovation and curiosity.
We offer a 1:1 technology-to-student program to support that goal, combining digital literacy with strong foundational skills. This well-rounded academic experience is further enriched through weekly music and art lessons, encouraging children to seek out and develop their God-given talents. We boast a comprehensive athletics program, where students learn about the importance of teamwork, never giving up, and being a good sport, helping them to grow in both body and mind as they learn about discipline and hard work.
Holy Cross is more than a school; it is a faith-based community that serves and supports families in their students' academic, spiritual growth, and character development.

Curriculum Spotlight

Realizing that student abilities in mathematics vary significantly within any grade level, Holy Cross offers advanced math placement for those students who qualify.

Placement is based on a composite of each student’s achievement, Iowa Basic Skills Test score, his or her previous classroom success, input of the previous year’s teacher, and, if necessary, their performance on the Saxon math placement test.

Consideration is given to the difficulty of the higher-level course in determining honor roll in the hope that students who qualify will choose to take the next level without jeopardizing their ability to be on the honor roll.

Holy Cross has partnered with Nexplore to lead STEM sessions this year.  Each grade level will have eight hands-on sessions during the first semester and ten sessions during the second semester.
